Australian Submarine Agency officially established
The Australian government has officially launched the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) as part of its transition to conventionally-armed nuclear-powered submarines. Based in Canberra, the ASA will be responsible for overseeing and managing the nuclear-powered submarine program, following its establishment on July 1.
With a workforce initially consisting of over 350 personnel from the Australian Defence Force and Australian Public Service, including members from the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Taskforce, the agency is expected to expand to over 680 staff within the next year. These personnel will be located both domestically and internationally, including in the United States and the United Kingdom, collaborating with communities, unions, industry, and governments to execute the nuclear-powered submarine program.
