For the year 2023, the military budget, not including pensions, is set to reach €43.9 billion, signifying a notable €3 billion surge. This budget allocation will rank as the government's second-largest, trailing only behind education, which is allocated €60.2 billion. This increase in military funding marks the most significant rise in almost 15 years. However, a significant portion of this augmented budget will be earmarked for bolstering ongoing initiatives related to acquiring new weaponry and modernizing existing military assets.
