Product Focus

QuantiFit2 – Respirator Fit Tester

The award-winning face fit testing system from OHD recently gained approval from the U.S. Navy.

QuantiFit2 is already used by hundreds of public and private organisations including the FBI, CIA, NYPD, LA Fire Department, Exxon, Boeing and Proctor & Gamble.

QuantiFit2 now has a growing customer base in the UK and its controlled negative pressure (CNP) protocols are referenced in the HSE’s INDG479 ‘Guidance on respiratory protective equipment (RPE) fit testing’.

Offering a simpler alternative to traditional ambient particle counting (APC) fit testing, QuantiFit2 works by using controlled negative pressure and has features that set it apart from other quantitative fit testing technologies.

Unlike APC technology, QuantiFit2 does not rely on specific environmental conditions. It can be deployed anywhere, indoors or outdoors, so the fit test can be taken out to the team. It also does not require consumables such as alcohol solutions, salt fog, flames or wicks, which dramatically simplifies cleaning routines as well as keeping cost of ownership and maintenance low.

Truly portable, the QuantiFit2 has a rechargeable battery, which offers more than four hours of active run time and can be swapped out in the field. Simple to set up, QuantiFit2 is ready to use within two minutes following a simple power-up and daily verification. No time-consuming set up of the test environment or warm-up period is necessary.

The LED colour touchscreen displays clear instructions and animations guide test subjects through each step and multiple tests can be conducted simultaneously.

Available to hire or buy, the revolutionary mask-fit tester is exclusively available from Shawcity in the UK and Ireland.

Alert PRO – Asbestos Sampler

Asbestos is still the number one cause of occupational deaths in the UK today, and it is still present in 78% of buildings in the UK today.

According to www.gov.uk, in defence circles, this presence extends to asbestos containing materials (ACMs) which can be found in some equipment platforms including helicopters, aircraft and systems, land equipment, ships, submarines and weapons.

Shawcity is therefore delighted to present the biggest advancement in asbestos technology for decades, with the Alert PRO from Alert Technology.

Winner of the 2023 BSIF Product Innovation Award, the Alert PRO distinguishes asbestos from non-asbestos fibres and particles, providing the world’s first and only real-time airborne asbestos alarm system.

In development for over ten years, Alert PRO is portable and simple to use. It works alongside the traditional method and continuously assesses the airborne environment providing a real-time alarm if asbestos has been released toxic into the air. This allows workers to evacuate the area and instigate safety procedures without delay.

This vital early warning enables an immediate and proactive safety response helping to prevent the risk of prolonged exposure. Alert PRO is the only known device capable of distinguishing asbestos fibres from other non-asbestos fibres in the air in real-time and uses patented light scattering technology, the paramagnetic properties of asbestos fibres and a complex algorithmic statistical analysis to achieve a 99% confidence level.

Alert PRO is most suitable for use in ambient indoor environments where the fabric of a structure will be disturbed through daily use or works such as maintenance, construction, restoration, improvements and demolition. Left running in an environment where the risk of asbestos is suspected, the unit is ideal for identifying specific tasks or processes that are leading to the release of asbestos, no matter how short-term or sporadic.

Users have real-time access to time-stamped particle and fibre counts, asbestos warnings and alarms, GPS tracking, and personalized sampling/project information. Key safety information and alarms are visible directly on the unit’s LCD screen, with more detail available via the cloud-based portal ‘ALERT Connect’.

Traditionally, asbestos surveying and detection has meant samples of suspected asbestos-containing materials being sent to laboratories for analysis. Collecting the sample itself involves a risk in terms of disturbing fibres and the exercise only reflects a snapshot of conditions at a single point in time. Until now, detecting airborne asbestos fibres in real time has not been possible. But Alert PRO works on all types of asbestos yet the unit is easy to use, with no specialist training required.

Alert PRO is available to hire or buy from Shawcity features user configurable settings, LED and audible alarms, LCD screen, 8GB onboard memory, an 8-hour rechargeable battery, historical data, easy to-download data via USB, ALERT Data Viewer platform for creating reports and a rugged case. On return, our hire units are sent to a specialist decontamination unit and processed before returning to our hire fleet.
